ICAO Seminar on Carbon markets

At the 39th Assembly in October 2016, ICAO Member States decided to implement the Carbon Offsetting and Reduction Scheme for International Aviation (CORSIA) as a complementary measure to address emissions from international aviation to achieve ICAO’s aspirational goal of carbon neutral growth from 2020. Offsetting requirements under the scheme are addressed by purchasing and cancelling eligible emissions units from carbon markets.

The ICAO Seminar on Carbon Markets aims to enhance understanding of carbon markets and emissions units, including the criteria for eligible emissions units, by sharing information on various aspects of emissions units programmes, mechanisms and projects, which are of interest for the implementation of the CORSIA.
